AI-assisted development is increasing the volume and pace of software change, but testing teams still devote substantial capacity to manual work and maintaining the automation they already have. The next stage of testing modernization depends not just on generating more tests, but on building automation that remains reliable as applications change.
Techstrong polled 137 practitioners and decision-makers involved in software testing or test automation to understand manual testing effort, automation maintenance, and readiness for AI-powered and autonomous testing. The findings show that 43% of respondents spend more effort maintaining existing automated tests than creating new coverage. While 62% consider continuous, largely autonomous testing a critical or important part of their future delivery strategy, 42% are actively evaluating or adopting AI-powered testing today.
